The Future of Engineering at Indiana Wesleyan University

“One of the unique distinctives of our engineering program is our collaboration with the IWU Art+Design division,” said Dr. Che, IWU’s new Engineering Program Director. “Students will take extensive art and design courses in this interdisciplinary concentration and have their creative talent and skills honed so they can become engineering designers who not only meet the functional needs of a customer in their designs, but also create designs that look good and have lasting aesthetic values. One quote I like the most is ‘engineering is half art, half science.’ But most engineering programs in the USA tend to focus more heavily on the science part. We want to leverage the strength of our art and design program by offering this highly integrative and innovative concentration.”

ENGINEERING MAJOR · BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ENGINEERING

IWU plans to offer one four-year degree program in Engineering upon final accreditation approval by the Higher Learning Commission. Within this program, students will choose to concentrate in civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or design engineering. IWU will also offer an Engineering minor.

MISSION STATEMENT

The IWU Engineering program will produce graduates who are diverse and widely recognized for their motivation and faith-inspired call to service. Graduates will have outstanding technical proficiency, broad development from a Christian liberal arts perspective, and mature relational and leadership skills.

LAUNCH

Following the 2020 approval of launching Engineering by the IWU Board of Trustees, Dr. David Che was hired as Engineering Program Director and Professor of Engineering. Dr. Che is building curriculum for this program, along with its five specializations.

ACCREDITATION

IWU’s Engineering program is set to launch in Fall 2022 pending full accreditation approval from the Higher Learning Commission.

FACILITIES

Renovations have begun to a building on the southeast side of campus that will house the program.
